The Union Saint-Gilloise (USG) team launched its participation in the Youth Cup, a European competition reserved for youth teams, a few hours before the Champions League kick-off for the first team. This competition represents an opportunity for the young talents of the USG to compete with the best European teams, as they did in facing the PSV Eindhoven. The outcome of this Youth Cup match is scrutinized with some apprehension, with supporters hoping that the results of the young people do not reflect the difficulties encountered by Team A.
The game resulted in a heavy USG defeat against PSV U19, with a score of 6 to 2. The Dutch quickly took the lead, leading 3 to 0 only 10 minutes after the kick-off, thanks in particular to a double of Verhuls and a third goal of a Belgian player playing the Jong PSV. The USG managed to react, narrowing the gap to 3-2 thanks to goals from El Marini and Lidler, but the PSV again widened the gap by taking advantage of an error from the USG goaltender. In the second period, Sami Bouhoudanne scored two additional goals to ensure the PSV victory.
Despite a lack of reputation for youth training, the USG presented itself to the Youth Cup with a willingness to fight. The enthusiasm of the fans was particularly original, with two enthusiasts who chose to travel the 133 kilometers between Parc Dudeen and Philips Stadion by bike. These courageous cyclists arrived in Eindhoven several hours before the kick-off, demonstrating their unwavering support for the team and their commitment to environmental protection.
