A bitter defeat for Frankfurt in the face of Leverkusen a worrying situation

Leverkusen’s EMS suffered a 3-1 defeat against Bayer Leverkusen, a team against which the EMS has not been able to win since 2014. Despite a promising start to the season, the Frankfurt team was unable to realize its opportunities in the first half of the season, thanks in particular to typing errors and tactical decisions lacking precision. Jonathan Burkardt’s entry, expected to boost the attack, was not enough to reverse the trend. Offensive players find it difficult to integrate into the game processes and create dangerous situations in front of the opposing goal.

The first half saw Bayer Leverkusen take the ascendant, with goals of Alejandro Grimaldo on free kick and Patrick Schick on penalty. The EMS had some opportunities, notably with Michael Zetterer and an attempt by Schick, but did not know how to turn them into goals. Leverkusen’s defence was strong, making it difficult for the Frankfurt attackers to break through. The second half was more balanced, with Can Uzun’s goal for the EMS, but the opportunities have become more challenging.

Despite a recovery in the second half and the introduction of offensive players such as Batshuayi and Wahi, the SGE failed to score any other goals. A free shot by Grimaldo sealed Leverkusen’s victory. Dino Topmรถller’s team must work on its precision in front of the goal, its defensive organization and the integration of new players like Burkardt. The next meeting of the Champions League against Galatasaray Istanbul represents an opportunity to correct the shot and show a better face.
