Report of the OM PSG Classic : Prudence in the face of the weather

The classic Olympic match in Marseille - Paris Saint-Germain, initially scheduled for Sunday evening at the Vélodrome Stadium, was postponed until Monday 8pm. This decision was taken by the Prefect of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, Georges-François Leclerc, due to weather conditions deemed dangerous. Although this measure has generated mixed reactions, notably from Paris Saint-Germain, it is justified by public security requirements. The prefect stressed the need to give priority to the safety of spectators and players, especially in the face of a risk of thunderstorms and heavy rains, with the Bouches-du-Rhône department placed in orange vigilance by Météo France.

After the official announcement, Prefect Leclerc detailed the reasons for the postponement to RMC. He stated that the most critical period was between 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., and that the principle of prudence guided this decision. He recalled that the main recommendation in case of severe thunderstorms is to stay home and avoid taking the car. Although the Football Professional League (LFP) quickly reprogrammed the match at Monday 8pm, this solution was not enthusiastically received by football players. Both clubs would have preferred to maintain the game on Sunday night, but acknowledged that they had no other choice in the face of weather risks.

For Paris Saint-Germain, this postponement is particularly delicate because it coincides with the Ballon d’Or ceremony, where Ousmane Dembélé is one of the favourites. The Parisian team had initially left Marseille on Sunday night to return to Paris, with a return scheduled Monday morning. For its part, Olympique de Marseille welcomes this reprogramming on Monday, because a postponement to Tuesday would have been problematic due to an already busy schedule, including a trip to Strasbourg and a meeting in the Champions League against Ajax Amsterdam. Marseille players continued their preparations for Commandery and plan to resume their routine in Rome on Tuesday.
